the 48-inch unit actually required 51 inches.
" Lumber for walnut was only available in
4-foot by 10-foot veneers, so we had to get creative
to find three more inches, " said Helms.
" We did this by incorporating a 'micro-shaker'
detail on the fridge cabinet doors only, which
allowed us to use hardwoods on the edges to
make up those extra inches. "
In the steam shower, it took some careful planning
to make all the features fit and have a safe
place for the steam unit to enter the shower and
not scald the user.
" The steam port is located at the back of the
shower at the end of the tub, so steam fills the
enclosure before heading out the glass transom at
the front of the shower, " said Greve. " As the original
plans did not call for a steam shower, it took
careful calculations and a reduction in ceiling
height to fall within the specs of the steam unit. "
Helms said coming in early during the newbuild
process helped them overcome challenges
during this project. " We also had our clients' attention
and confidence from the beginning, so it
was easier to make pivotal decisions and tailor the
details to their needs. "

frosted-glass cabinetry define
the drink station, which also
includes a coffee maker, a
beverage refrigerator and an
ice maker. With only inches to
spare and needing a place for
a stairway railing to attach, a
decorative end column served
double duty by seamlessly
finishing off the cabinetry and
providing a space for a stair
railing to attach.
