CHAPTER HIGHLIGHTS
Orange County Region
The region is proud to have created a local initiative
with the intent of exposing future leaders to an industry
they may not have considered as a career path. Its
EID director Linda Hinojosa and steering chair elect
Sonya Miles have spearheaded the local program
by establishing goals and creating a presentation for
outreach with students at the high school level in
underserved communities. Hinojosa, a manufacturer's
representative, and Miles, an interior designer, have
spoken to students at several high schools about
opportunities in the hospitality industry based upon
their own experiences. And in the true spirit of
networking, they have shared their goals and findings
with other NEWH chapters to help expand the initiative.
Like all movements there is a constant ebb and flow
and desire to rethink and improve upon the original
initiative. To expand beyond their own professional roles,
Hinojosa and Miles are starting work on recording short
interviews with various professionals in the hospitality
field, such as product designers, purchasers, urban
planners, general contractors, architects, and more.
The goal is to create a POC library of both personal and
professional stories which document the struggles and
achievements of a wide variety of role models that they
hope will inspire and motivate young talent to pursue a
career and achieve their goals in the hospitality industry.

The regional group was also proud to present Bob Olson, R.D. Olson Development, the STAR Award in grateful appreciation for all his efforts and support of
the NEWH Orange County board and region. Attendees were able to celebrate in person at the Lido House, Autograph Collection hotel in Newport Beach,
California, in the true spirit of networking and supporting its goals for NEWH.

Dallas
In August, the chapter hosted more than 60 people at its
first in-person event of the year, at Dahlia Bar & Bistro in
Dallas, designed by Duncan & Miller Design.
