EQUITY, INCLUSION, AND DIVERSITY
The following article is an excerpt from an interview conducted by Lanee Burns, Vice President, Equity,
Inclusion, and Diversity, NEWH, Inc., and Linda Hinojosa, Diversity Director, NEWH Orange County
Region. Brad Wilson Partner and CEO of Ace Hotel Group was recently honored at the HD Platinum
Circle Awards gala.

Partner and CEO of Ace Hotel Group
Brad Wilson, partner and CEO of Ace Hotel Group, has worked
in the hotel industry from the time he was a very young man.
He has seen the evolution of our industry in more ways than
one. According to Wilson, Ace Hotels may be the largest
LGBTQ owned and operated hotel company in the U.S. The
company was founded by three gay men, so their LGBTQ
roots run deep. However, today the company has a broader
and more diverse mission. The company president and
general counsel, Meriem Soliman, is a Black woman, and their
diverse executive committee encourages equity and inclusion.
" However, we have a lot more diversity at the entry level
positions than at the management level, " Wilson says. A major
goal for the Ace executive team is to develop a more diverse
mid-level management. Ace recently piloted a mentorship
program to offer diverse entry level staff the opportunity
to promote within the company. This is where true diversity
growth can happen and affect the largest group of people.
Growing up as a white male, Wilson could easily blend into
a room. He remembers all too well being in an environment
where people said inappropriate things. " When you're a gay
kid in a locker room you know kids don't like gay people. "
According to Wilson, we have been taught our whole lives
to say we are not racist or homophobic, yet our actions
are sometimes outwardly offensive or, even worse, micro
aggressions that leave tiny cuts in the hearts and minds of
those deeply offended.
