Remembering Cynthia Diane Katafi asz
Cynthia Diane Katafiasz of Leawood, Kansas passed away in February. Cynthia's career was spent in the hospitality industry
working at Durkan-Mohawk for over 30 years sourcing and creating carpet for many high-profile hospitality projects throughout
the world. She was loved by her customers and admired by all of her peers, receiving many awards for her accomplishments in the
carpet industry.
Cynthia was born in Ventura, California to Tom and Mary (Steinbrock) Katafiasz. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School,
Salina, Kansas and earned a BS degree in business administration from the University of Kansas in 1988, where she was a member
of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. Cynthia was an accomplished pianist, loved Elton John, was an avid world traveler, and was a season
ticketholder of both the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals for more than 20 years.
A generous person, her enormous zest for life led to many lasting friendships that were so important to her. She touched many
lives in a positive way and made those around her feel like family. Her kindness, thoughtfulness, and generosity were legendary.
She will be greatly missed and her impact on those who knew her will be remembered.
Cynthia is survived by her parents, Tom and Mary Katafiasz; sisters Annette (Tyler) Cundith, Kelly (Derron) Gunderman, and
Michelle (Sai Viswanath) Katafiasz; and five nieces and a nephew. She is also survived by her devoted life partner, Kane Wright,
who loved her dearly.
1. In March, Wolf-Gordon and V Starr hosted
an event to celebrate their award-winning Muse
collection of upholstery textiles designed by
Venus Williams, founder and CEO of V Starr.
The cocktail reception in New York's Chelsea
art district featured three contemporary dance
pieces with props upholstered in Muse fabrics.
2. W Group welcomes Kathy Irish from KI
Design Resource as its new contract sales
representative for Washington and Oregon,
representing WAC Lighting, Modern Forms, and
Schonbek.
3. Suomi Design Works, founded by Michael
Suomi, welcomes Andrea Perez as the firm's
senior designer and Celeste Nishikawa Dawson
as interior designer.
4. Lela Richardson, has joined designONE
studio as design principal in the firm's Atlanta
off ice.
5. Architessa, formerly Architectural Ceramics,
has opened two new showrooms in Georgetown,
Washington, DC, and Richmond, Virginia.
