What made you pursue the hospitality industry?
Ever since I was a child I have been influenced by my surroundings. Depending
on the design and atmosphere of a space, it could very quickly make me
anxious or feel right at home. Once I learned that interior design was a career
path, I knew I wanted to design spaces that people could feel comfortable and
thrive in. Various project types within the hospitality sector intrigue me, such
as restaurants and hotels. Whenever I am traveling or eating out, I always pay
attention to the design of these spaces. If they are an example of good design
with unique or thoughtful elements, I make a note to come back to these
spaces and look forward to spending time in them. I want to create spaces that
other people can look forward to visiting. With every detail, from small lighting
choices to giant artwork, spaces-where people visit to get away from everyday
life-should be designed as a memorable experience.
How will receiving this scholarship help you in your future?
Receiving this scholarship is a great honor and it will help me graduate from
college will fewer loans. This will help me start out my career with less debt
and therefore enjoy my time as a young professional more. I have truly enjoyed
working on my interior architecture and design degree at Colorado State
University and this scholarship from NEWH will help support me in finishing
strong with less financial burden after I graduate.
What made you pursue the hospitality industry?
When I first decided to pursue interior architecture and design, I was inspired
by my dad. He is a construction worker, so I have seen him build structures,
install flooring, and read floorplans. I wanted to be able to be part of the team
that helps him construct these beautiful structures, so I decided to pursue
architecture. The hospitality industry inspired me as I was amazed by the
beauty of the design. Every building I visited was unique. I saw this as an
opportunity to provide my tastes and design.
How will receiving this scholarship help you in your future?
Receiving this scholarship has lifted a lot of weight off my shoulders. One of the
things that is always on my mind is how I am going to pay for my education or
any additional necessities. With this award, I am able to focus on my education
and continue improving my design skills.
