put up numerous fi rst ascents
in Patagonia, including the fi rst
ascent of the 2,000-meter
North Pillar Sit Start, fi nishing
on the summit of Fitz Roy,
earning him the American Alpine
Club's Robert Hicks Bates
Award. While he describes
himself as a " highly energetic
yet essentially mediocre rock
climber who occasionally has
a good day in the mountains
through luck and a positive
ape index, " we think that's the
short end of the rope.

Yosemite Triple Crown, RAB climber Scott
Bennett talks booth time, sustainability,
and bagging Colorado's CUDL Route.

While Scott Bennett, 36, is well
at home at the Outdoor Retailer
Summer show-he's sponsored
by such companies as Camp,
Edelweiss Ropes, Rab, and
Scarpa-he's most comfortable
on long, committing alpine

routes in the mountains. A stunt
rigger in Hollywood when he's
not climbing, Bennett loves
unique route link-ups and
speed challenges. With partner
Jordan Cannon, this summer
he knocked off the Yosemite
/ OUTDOOR RETAILER SUMMER 2021
Why is it important for you
to be at the OR Show?
A lot of the sponsorships I have
are a direct result of being at
the Show and the connections
I've made from it. In the early
days, I was part of the " fake it
till you make it " crowd, but the
Show has helped me to understand
what brands are looking
for from a marketing perspective.
It gives me a chance to
meet with my sponsors-especially
this year, since it's been a
year and a half without touching
base in person. I'm looking
forward to high-fi ving people.
What will you be doing here?
I'll mainly be at the RAB booth,
talking to people about product
and representing the brand.
Truthfully, a lot of it is so everyone
else can get their work
done. But it's great to connect
with people, whether they're a
buyer or a general consumer.
And I love RAB because of
the brand's sustainability and
corporate social responsibility
stance-they've committed to
be Net Zero by 2030. That's
the tip of the spear for climate
change. As a gear nerd, I love
walking around and checking
out all the new gear-especially
everything you need for being
outdoors, like headlamps,
camping gear, and even coffee
makers. Plus, I love all the
snacks and free drinks.
What's the one piece of gear
you're looking for?
I'm psyched to see Rab's
expanded Skyline Range series.
It's all super lightweight
backpacks, layers, shirts, and
shorts, targeted at alpine running
and light-and-fast climbing.
I hope to use it in Rocky
Mountain National Park.
Any other projects you're
preparing for?
I'm looking at another linkup in
Rocky Mountain National Park.
Tommy Caldwell and Alex
Honnold did it last year and
called it the CUDL, or Continental
Divide Ultimate Linkup.
It's all the 17 highest, most
iconic named climbs along
the Divide. I've done them all
over the course of a season
but never together. It's kind of
like a scavenger hunt with 17
stops. They did it in 36 hours.
I'm going to do it with Jordan
[Cannon], hopefully not taking
much longer. But you never
know because stuff happens.
