Riding the train into Denver
on his way to the Snow Show,
Lamont Joseph White ran into
mountaineer Phil Henderson,
who'll be leading the first allBlack
attempt of Mt. Everest.
Henderson, just back from
Nepal, was also heading for the
Show. That kind of connection
is exactly why White, an artist
whose work embraces inclusivity
in snowsports, comes to
Outdoor Retailer Shows. " It's
great to meet new people and
actually see people I've only
seen virtually-and continue
conversations, " White said from
the Inclusivity Space set aside
by Seirus (44005-UL).
White's work has been commissioned
by outdoor brands
such as Smith, Seirus, Spyder,
Keep Talking
This next-generation intercom technology allows for real-time conversations

Israeli-based technology company
that's a leader in the motorcycle
communication space, is launching
the PackTalk Outdoor, a completely
waterproof headset communication
system with JBL sound and
USB-C charging. It's specifically
engineered for use in the outdoors-for
skiing, snowboarding,
whitewater rafting, biking, ice
climbing, and more.
The brand originally used Bluetooth
but has upleveled with mesh
technology, which allows multiple
parties to be connected in live conversation.
There's no " over-and-out "

type conversations with Cardo. " It
works just like a normal in-person
conversation, " says Cardo's director
of business development Bobby Ali,
who has worked at brands including
Oakley and Outdoor Tech. Mesh
communication systems, which
don't rely on cellular data, are used
in home WiFi systems to deliver
higher speeds and better coverage.
PackTalk Outdoor does utilize
Bluetooth for music and phone calls
delivered through the earpiece.
For Cardo, which has been
successful in mitigating wind
noise for conversations at highway
speeds, the ski slopes are a relative/

ly simple environment. " To work
on a mountain at a lower velocity
where the terrain is not changing
as rapidly...it's a piece of cake, " says
Ali. With two users, the range is
.6 of a mile and up to three miles
with five users. Ali sees snowsports
as the perfect application for the
product. It can be used for ski
instruction and coaching, but also
for groups to communicate about
obstacles. " Say you're riding with
friends in the trees. You can say,
'Hey, watch out for the branch.' "
he says. " You can't do that kind
of rapid communication with a
walkie-talkie. "

there, " White said. " I believe in
the power of representation.
When people are presented
with imagery that may not
meet the status quo, it can
help to normalize a more inclusive
