Our intrepid reporter embarks on Taiwan Excellence
U.S.'s scavenger hunt. By Chris Van Leuven
AT FIRST GLANCE, THE DIRECTIONS
sounded daunting, like an M.C.
Escher painting where various
steps lead to infinity. Scan your
badge here, follow social channels
there, turn here to get a media
" passport, " turn there to collect
stickers, fill out a survey, spin the
wheel for a prize, put your name in
a box, etc.
In reality, the whole process took
ten painless minutes. The helpful
booth staff at Taiwan Excellence
U.S. walked me through their
various product offerings, including
body boards, swim goggles,
eco-friendly cutlery, and a necklace
that functions as an air purifier
with a 99.7% coronavirus removal
rate. There was even a wearable
fitness tracker attached to clothes,
and a wetsuit. During the tour, I

learned about the company and its
myriad offerings. As I perused the
display items, passersby filled the
booth (53047-UL), elbowing their
way toward the wheel. Suddenly
that compact space on the show
floor tucked against the far corner
overflowed with bodies, each eagerly
participating in the game.
Once my scavenger hunt was
complete, I stepped up to the
front desk and, feeling like a
contestant on Wheel of Fortune,
I excitedly tried my luck. " C'mon
gift card! " I said aloud. (The gift
card is one of the top prizes and
works at Amazon or Starbucks.)
The wheel stopped at Eco Mug,
decorated with the words " Go with
the Flow, " which is also a great
prize. The Eco Mug is part of the
JCPFM Compost Collection, where

recycled coffee grounds from cafés
are made into straws and cup lids.
Taiwan Excellence U.S. distributes
a laundry list of brands,
including: Aropec, makers of
spearfishing wetsuits; Arofly,
maker of the smallest, most
affordable bike meter available;
Atunas, maker of EVA watersport
products; MiTac Digital Technology,
maker of waterproof rider
cameras; Saeko, maker of swim
goggles; and Asustek, a wearable
health tracker with ECG and PPG
sensors. There's also Ible Technology,
maker of the wearable air
purifier; Makalot, maker of shirts
and shorts equipped with ECG
monitors; Feca, a magic suction
cup; Ju Jian, maker of plant-fiber
dinnerware; and Vago, maker of
specialty storage containers.
Packing ample calories for a
day in the field is tricky. The
more you exercise, the more
calories burn up, and if you
underpacked, the hunger is
followed by a nasty case of
the grumpies. No one wants
that. Enter Ovation Foods,
