STid Secures Vehicle Entrance to
MONTCLAIR STATE UNIVERSITY Campus
Another great success story for STid in the USA! Montclair State University
(MSU), a 252-acre suburban campus located 12 miles from New York City
in New Jersey, has upgraded its vehicle access control system with STid's

Montclair State University
was in desperate need
to upgrade its decades-old
access control system. The
university decided to address
the main gate entrance fi rst,
which is used mostly by vehicles
of employees and by large
buses as the primary point of
entry onto this large, expansive
campus. Delays when
entering through this gate
can cause undesirable ripple
effects, like professors and
students being late for class, meetings and other activities. Th e
current access control system has been in use for decades, so a
change would defi nitely require some willingness to adjust from
the employees that were used to the old system. Flawless security
combined with a frictionless user experience was required and
expected by the university and its employees... Industry leader

Optimizing vehicle flows in high-security mode
Th is project involved approximately 200 tags to be mounted
on vehicle and a number of readers at the main campus gate.
When an authorized driver approaches the car park entrance, the
vehicle is automatically detected and identifi ed. How? Th anks
to the STid SPECTRE long-range UHF reader that is installed
at the gate. SPECTRE readers support convenient read ranges
of up to 46 feet (14 meters) in a very secure and reliable way.
STid's SPECTRE UHF scalable long-range reader was the perfect
choice for this particular gate. Elegant, fl exible and perfectly

cation of vehicles as part of one-, two- or four-lane confi gurations.

After the successful transition of the main gate to the new STid system,
MSU has further plans to expand the new system to fi ve additional
gates this year, and the university is currently also reviewing

existing legacy access control systems throughout the campus.
