Alarm Owners Say They Deal
With Too Many False Alerts
▶ DALLAS - New research from Parks
Associates reveals 48% of security system
owners report their systems triggers
too many false alarms.
Found in the firm's report, " Alerts
and Alarms: Consumer Perceptions
of Security Event Management, " the
research explores consumer attitudes,
preferences and experiences in security
event management among households
with professional monitoring.
" False alerts generate fines and frustrations
for users, " says Chris White, senior
analyst, Parks Associates. " False alerts,
caused by harmless factors like children
or pets, can devalue the security system
in a number of ways. Users can get in the
habit of ignoring or disabling triggers.
Resulting fines from unnecessary runs by
a city's emergency responders, which are
on average nearly $150, also add to the
cost of owning the system. "
Parks Associates also finds that 62%
of security owners report their system
triggered at least one false alarm in the
past 12 months. Among them, the majority
paid a fine, although there are some
state- and municipality-led initiatives to
fine security providers instead of home
Pye-Barker Acquires
Matson Alarm
▶ ATLANTA - Pye-Barker Fire & Safety,
based here, has acquired of Fresno,
Calif.-based Matson Alarm for undisclosed
terms. The transaction strengthens
Pye-Barker's presence in the Golden
State while bolstering its service offerings
in the Central California market,
according to an announcement.

for residential and commercial customers
that include internet-enabled control
devices, real-time video surveillance, fire
alarm systems, GPS fleet tracking and

in Person and Virtually
▶ WESTMINSTER, Colo. - PSA will host
in-person and virtual installments for
PSA TEC 2022. Regarded as one of the
industry's premier educational and networking
conferences, PSA TEC Live will
be held May 16-19 and PSA TEC Virtual
will be May 24-26.
" We have many exciting changes
planned for TEC 2022 as well as
some of the classic components that
attendees return for year after year, "
