S O C I A L CA R E Turn lives around If you're looking for a fulfilling change of direction, working with adults with disabilities could hold the key W hen it comes to rewarding roles, it's hard to beat enhancing the lives of others on a daily basis. Whether working with adults with autism or those needing support following an accident or illness, demand for carers has never been higher. According to The King's Fund, an independent charitable organisation working to improve healthcare, the prevalence of disability among working age adults has increased by 3% since 2010. The number of people working in adult social care jobs in England in 2019/20 is estimated at 1.65 million - an increase of around 1% (or 17,000 jobs) on the previous year. Some of those workers support people who need assistance to stay in their own homes, while others work in residential facilities providing personal and other care. JOBS & CAREERS /// 217
