Chihiro Sawaki, one of the ﬁrst female
engineers in Newton Aycliffe, adds: 'I
started to work for Hitachi in Japan in 2008
after graduating university, before moving
to Hitachi Rail Europe in the UK. I'm most
excited when I feel I have made a real
contribution to other people's lives through
our products. I can't wait to see customers
enjoy the trains we have designed and built!
I feel I have grown so much as a person
during my time at Hitachi - we are working
on so many enormous projects and after we
ﬁnish we will be able to do anything!'
