'In 2011, I joined Anchor as a Care
Assistant,' says Robin Bennett.
'Immediately I started to look for
additional responsibilities and when a
Team Leader position became vacant,
my manager and colleagues were all
supportive. I got the position and my
time as a Team Leader helped me to
develop the key skills needed to continue
moving forward. I then became a Care
Manager. Two months into the role there
was an opportunity to cover for the
Home Manager and when that role was
advertised, I applied and was successful.
Those 18 months were a fast-track on my
career pathway and I was fully supported.'

elderly; and to be honest I wasn't sure
it was for her. I was afraid she would be
given all the menial tasks and not get
much experience from it. The Anchor
Apprenticeship Academy has definitely
changed my opinion; it has given Kayleigh a
massive boost in confidence, self-worth and
job satisfaction, and allowed her to gain on
the job training while earning a wage.
'It has given her a chance to establish
herself in a role she now knows
without having the same pressures
she would have had if it started as a full
time job. I see her moving forward in care
now and pursuing it further. Thank you so
much for giving her the opportunity.'

Full-time employment
Another Anchor apprentice is Ryan
Bull, from Teal Beck Court, Otley , West
Yorkshire, who was the first Anchor
apprentice to gain full-time employment,

just five months into his apprenticeship.
He says: 'I chose to join the academy as
I've always wanted to change lives and
make people happy; make them smile
and feel valued.
'The thing I love most about my job is
encouraging and prompting independence;
to support a customer to participate in
different activities as much as they can.
'So what's a typical day for me? A typical
shift consists of supporting customers to
get out of bed, get washed and dressed,
escort them to the dining room for
breakfast if they wish.
'We have lots of activities and events in
the home which I like to get involved in.
Encouraging and prompting customer's
independence as much as possible is
very important to me as I like seeing
my customers participate in different
activities as much as they can. I am now a
full-time carer but I can still finish off my

apprenticeship, which is great, as
it means I can earn my qualifications.'
