A

ldi, Grocer of the Year
2018, is the fastest
growing and fifth largest
supermarket in the
UK. It takes thousands
of dedicated and talented colleagues to
ensure its 825 stores and 10 distribution
centres work effectively, in order to
provide the best possible experience
for it customers across the country.
With plans to operate 1,200 stores by
2025, Aldi's expansion plans and popularity
means the discount supermarket is on
a constant lookout for hardworking
and enthusiastic candidates to support
teams within its 10 operating regions.
Aldi demonstrates its commitment to
employing and supporting young people
and leaders of the future through its
successful apprenticeship programmes.
It has employed nearly 700 apprentices
across the business and now plans to create
further opportunities throughout 2019.
The Aldi apprenticeship programmes
feature a mixture of in-store practical
experience and theory work, so
apprentices gain essential qualifications
while working. It's hard work but
is also incredibly rewarding, giving
candidates an amazing opportunity
for a successful career with Aldi. The
three core apprenticeships are:

Stores Apprenticeship

Offers on-the-job training, during which
apprentices learn about all areas of store
operations and have the opportunity to
become a store assistant or a deputy store
manager for those who excel. Apprentices
receive £183 per week in year one, rising
to £273 per week in year three, and can
enter the programme via two routes:
* Career Starters Previous qualifications
aren't necessary. This new route
allows school leavers to work towards
a career while developing skills in

literacy and numeracy and completing
a level 2 retailer qualification.
* Management Development
Programme This requires a minimum
grade 4 or equivalent in maths and
English, and offers candidates a fast track
to becoming a deputy store manager.
Apprentices complete a level 2 retailer
qualification in their first year and
progress to a level 3 retail team leader
qualification in years two and three.

Logistics Apprenticeship

Involves one year of on-the-job training,
during which candidates are exposed to
all elements of the Aldi supply chain,
and work towards a level 2 supply chain
operative qualification. They receive a
competitive salary of £183 per week,
and may be offered a permanent role
as a selector or logistics assistant.

Drivers Apprenticeship

Starts with the technical side of the
job, giving apprentices all of the skills
needed to be excellent drivers, as well
as two dedicated mentors to guide
them through the journey to gain a
category C+E licence and a level 2 LGV
standard qualification at the end of
the one-year programme. Colleagues
on the Driving Apprenticeship will
receive £310 per week and are required
to have a clean and full UK driving
licence for a minimum of two years.

the workforce," says Kelly Stokes, Aldi's
Personnel Development Director. "Not
only do you get exposure to all areas of
the business function, you also complete
qualifications which make you a more
skilled individual. Our business has grown
thanks to the skills of our apprentices
and we'll be investing even more in our
programmes over the years to come."
