How Do You Like Me Now?
After an abundant amount of research on fonts, countless designs and redesigns,
an unmentionable number of tweaks and a slew of reviews and approvals, the
new and improved Aircraft Maintenance Technology (AMT) has been launched.
And I now ask our readers - "how do you like me now?"

A renovated
magazine
through and
through.

The magazine, which has been around for 30-plus
years, underwent some major changes and upgrades
for 2020. First off, you will notice the vibrant, clean,
modern design featuring our new arrow at the top of our
pages and within other aspects of the magazine. I like
to think of the deconstructed arrow as a positive icon
that symbolizes moving up and forward in this industry.
Not only literally speaking - aircraft
of course do both - but in regard to
where we are headed as technology
and ideas thrust us forward into
a new age of aerospace. Flying
cars and Uber Elevate. I mean,
the Jetson's cartoon was on
to something, right?
Within the new pages
- which continues to
house all the same
pertinent content it
has for many years -
you will find a few updates,
including new department
sections and new department names. We have
brought back the industry
news section to AMT, which
is now referred to as Industry Inspection. Here, you can
find the latest news in aircraft maintenance, including acquisitions, promotions, new hires, important
contracts and education and training happenings.
Did you hear about how Congress has fully funded
aviation workforce development programs for 2020?
Check it out on page 6. Product Showcase, which is a
special section that follows our Product Focus stories,
has now become the Product Hangar. This month, we
cover main ship batteries in a feature story on page
36 and product listings in Product Hangar on page 41.
The masthead on page 4 is even seeing some changes,
believe it or not. We have a new writer for AMT: Vernon
Berry, who has written for us in the past and has 40 years
of experience in aircraft maintenance management

JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2020

- take a gander at his article on outsourcing maintenance on page 10.
And, lastly, our 40 Under 40 campaign has commenced with an exciting and clever logo which really
taps in to what the project is all about - acknowledging
the dedication and hard work of young aircraft maintenance professionals - from technicians to directors of
maintenance and everyone who
works hard to keep us all flying safely.
I would like to take
this opportunity to
thank those who
have helped AMT this
month during a chaotic, yet exciting redesign phase including
Julie Whitty, director,
art services department and Rhonda
Cousin, art director,
who worked magic on
these pages to help my
vision come to life and
guided me through the
process with incredible insight and talent. Thanks also is due to Nicole
Turner, creative director, marketing, who pushed the
team to update the 40 Under 40 campaign, which has
already seen amazing results. This year we will have
a ginormous heap of submissions to comb through.
Good luck to those nominated! We will announce the
40 winners in the October issue. And, to whom makes
it all come together and guides us through every step
of the way, Missy Zingsheim, publisher of the Aviation
group. Thank you too, readers, for accepting the changes
we make as we evolve as an industry and a magazine.
