COMMERCIAL MRO

GROWTH: COMMERCIAL MRO BY THE NUMBERS
The new hangar built in Bacau in late 2012 effectively
doubled Aerostar's MRO capacity. According to Aerostar,
since then the expansion in the yearly throughput of aircraft
has been quite dramatic.

aircraft for Pegasus Airlines in 2018.
The first C-check carried out on a Boeing 737 was in
December 2004. By mid 2012, some 200 aircraft had been
through Aerostar for C and D checks. This slow buildup prior
to 2012 has considerably accelerated as the Airbus A320

family was added to the portfolio.
In numbers, this means that in 2015, 65 aircraft were
overhauled, in 2016, 80 aircraft, in 2017, 87 aircraft, and
in 2018, 104 "C" and "D" checks on B737 and Airbus A320
aircraft were performed, including the first base
maintenance inspection in Europe on A320neo
LEAP-1A aircraft of Pegasus Airlines. From the 25
Airbus A320 aircraft overhauled in 2018, five were
Airbus A320neo.
Also in 2018, Aerostar completed the first Ccheck for Air France, which continued with another
three "heavy checks" for A320 family aircraft.
During 2019, Aerostar has so far delivered 26
aircraft after completing the heavy maintenance
work: 19 B737 and seven A320 aircraft.
An Air France A320 was the prototype for installation of the internet connectivity via satellite package;
it is an Aeroconseil modernization bulletin implemented on three aircraft. The work also included a full
refurbishment of the passenger cabin.
The capabilities and experience in the
implementation of modifications (STC) comprise
the Split Scimitar Installation Retrofit, the WiFi
Global Airconnect System, and the ACARS Datalink
System Installations.
According to Aerostar, by 2016 a total of 500 aircraft
from 30 airlines had been overhauled; by mid 2019, this number
climbed to more than 700 aircraft from some 50 customers.
Aerostar is particularly proud that amongst its 50 civil
MRO customers, some have become long-term customers.
This includes Pegasus Airways of Turkey (Aerostar overhauls
both B737-800 and Airbus A320 family), and Royal Air Maroc
for its Boeing 737 Classic and NG fleet. Also, the Air France is
included in this context.
