Airbus and CFM International to Pioneer
Hydrogen Combustion Technology
Airbus has signed a partnership agreement with CFM International, a joint
company of GE and Safran Aircraft Engines, to collaborate on a hydrogen demonstration
program that will take flight around the middle of the decade. The
program's objective is to ground and flight test a direct combustion engine fueled
by hydrogen, in preparation for entry into service of a zero-emission aircraft by
2035. The demonstration will use a A380 flying testbed equipped with liquid
hydrogen tanks. Airbus will define the hydrogen propulsion system requirements,
oversee flight testing, and provide the platform to test the hydrogen combustion
engine. CFM International will modify the combustor, fuel system and control
system of a GE Passport turbofan. The engine was selected for this program
because of its size, advanced turbo machinery, and fuel flow capability.

Embry-Riddle Integrates 8tree's dentCHECK

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
is integrating dentCHECK into its Aviation
Maintenance Science (AMS) curriculum. The
department equips grads to work aviation
and aerospace maintenance. " Part of that
preparation is incorporating cutting-edge
technology in our curriculum, especially
when that technology is already being
used by leading aviation and aerospace
maintenance facilities, " said Kris Hammer,
AMS associate chair. " Advanced aircraft
require advanced inspection methods, and
8tree's dentCHECK is a perfect example
of this type of technology. Our students
getting hands-on experience with the dentCHECK equipment gives
them an additional edge over graduates from other Part 147 schools. "

The Sterling Group Completes the
Acquisition of West Star Aviation
The Sterling Group, an operationally focused middle
market private equity firm, announces the acquisition
of West Star Aviation, LLC from Norwest Equity
Partners. Sterling previously partnered with entrepreneur
owners to build Lynx, an FBO network. Greg
Elliott, a partner at The Sterling Group, has been
involved in building several business aviation platforms
in the past 20 years, including as either chairman
or board member of Lynx, Encore, Trajen, and

Lockheed Martin Reaches
Super Herculean Milestone
with 500th Delivery
Hercules history is made once again with the
announcement that Lockheed Martin recently
delivered its 500th C-130J Super Hercules airlifter.
This Super Hercules is a C-130J-30 aircraft assigned
to the 130th Airlift Wing located at McLaughlin Air
National Guard Base in Charleston, West Virginia.
The 130th Airlift Wing is a longtime C-130 operator
that is currently modernizing its legacy Hercules
fleet with C-130Js. The U.S. government operates
the largest C-130J Super Hercules fleet in the world.
This delivery represents the U.S. government's continued
transition to the C-130J as the common platform
across the Air Force, the Marine Corps and the
Coast Guard.
