CHANGING
OF THE SEASONS

AZING OUT OF MY OFFICE WINDOW, THE LANDSCAPE AND VEGETAtion is changing color here in the Upper Midwest. Tree leaves have
become a mix of browns, yellows and reds. The green grass has
slowed its pace of growth, and the adjacent field of corn is rapidly changing
from bright green to a sea of autumn harvest colors. It seems not long ago
I could have said the view out this same window was snow white in color.
Well, not to worry, the snow-white landscape will be here soon enough.
Similarly, the AMT staff landscape has also changed. This year has brought
about a new publisher bringing the entire aviation group together. We've
had retirements of long-time staff, followed by hiring and rehiring of new
and young talent. Our staff has increased; a great thing to be able to say in
any business these days.
You can take a look at the masthead and find the names, titles and contact
information for all of us.
I stopped by my favorite small airport this week. I hadn't spent much time
there this summer, so I was way overdue to visit the folks at historic Stanton
Airfield. Just like the seasons and the magazine, the airfield has changed
as well in recent times. New staff, a few different airplanes around, a new
rental hangar, a couple remodeled rooms and a very busy maintenance shop,
which was great to see. Yes, even the landscape at our local recreational
airport has changed.
Change for the sake of change is not a good thing, and sudden change
should be avoided, if possible. But change in order to keep up with the fastpaced, evolving world we live in, is a must. You cannot avoid change these
days. A change among your coworkers, company executives, processes within
your company, changes to your business model, the types of aircraft your
company safely services and operates and many other things.
Most importantly, are changes to your personal life. Sometimes people
make planned intentional changes in their lives. Other times...well things
just seem to happen and create a need to change.
Like the changing of the seasons, you can't stop change and fighting it
may make the situation worse. You need to face it head-on. Figure it out,
embrace it, thrive and survive, because as Heraclitus says, "change is the
only constant in life."
Keep 'em flying safely,
Ron
