LYH Airport Director
Announces Retirement
Lynchburg Regional A ir port
Director Mark F. Cour tney,
A.A.E. announced his retirement
effective Nov. 1. Courtney began
his position at LYH on March 1,
1999 following nearly eight years
at Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional
Airport (ROA) where he held the
position of director of planning
and market development before becoming the airport's
deputy director. He previously served as the manager of
marketing and communications for Cleveland Hopkins
International Airport (CLE).
Courtney is responsible for managing all functions of the
region's primary commercial service airport, with direct
oversight of airport planning and construction, operations
and maintenance, finance and administration, marketing,
air service development and public relations. As part of
his responsibilities,Courtney oversees an operation budget
of $2.8 million and multi-year capital project program of
approximately $21 million involving extensive federal and
state entitlement and discretionary grant funds.
"It certainly has been a dynamic and rewarding experience
leading Lynchburg Regional Airport over the last 20 years
and I will miss the many friends I have made throughout
the aviation community," Courtney said. "I appreciate
the numerous opportunities I have had to serve the city
of Lynchburg as airport director and want to thank the
Lynchburg Regional Airport Commission for its longtime
support and counsel over the years. I especially want to
express how proud I am of all my airport team members for
their professionalism and dedication to making LYH one

'Wish Lounge' in a North American Airport
John Wayne Airport and Make-A-Wish Orange County
and the Inland Empire unveiled the f irst-ever North
American airport children's "Wish Lounge." The Wish
Lounge is a children's play area with child-sized tables and
chairs where kids can enjoy coloring activities, reading
books, playing games and taking photos at a selfie-station
equipped with photo props and a giant teddy bear.

Sheltair Aviation will Break Ground for Its Blue
Ribbon FBO Service at Colorado's BJC
Sheltair Aviation broke ground on its full-service FBO at
Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport (BJC) Aug. 15,
providing the region with a 21 acre, $20 million dollar
complex that includes a new terminal, hangar and buildto-suit office space opportunities.
When completed in 2020, the new facility will mark
Sheltair's first FBO presence west of the Mississippi.
Jefferson County Manager Don Davis stated, "Our
local aviation community expressed a strong desire for an
expansion of available aeronautical services and I believe
Sheltair's arrival at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport
will provide that expansion through high quality services.
We are excited to welcome the Sheltair team to Jefferson
County and know they will make RMMA the regional
airport of choice."
The construction milestone ref lects Phase One of Sheltair's
development plans at BJC with a new 10,000 square foot
FBO facility featuring 10 acres of aircraft parking apron,
parking for up to 120 vehicles, a covered aircraft canopy
that can accommodate large cabin class aircraft and "Blue
Ribbon" pilot and guest amenities. About 20 employees are
expected to staff the Sheltair facility.
When completed Sheltair's Hangar "A" will provide
a total of 35,000 square foot hangar (5,000 square feet is
"build to suit" office space) and ensures the general aviation
community has the infrastructure to serve a vital and
growing market that includes nearby Denver, Boulder and
the surrounding front range area.
