says the decision was made following
careful evaluation of what heightened
measures would be necessary to ensure
the safety of the construction workforce
and whether contractors are prepared
to take those measures. The agency
said the construction activities that will
continue involve tasks considered to be
critical or necessary to ensure safety or
to avoid mobility, environmental or other
impacts. However, Sound Transit explains
it will immediately shut down work if
contractors are unable to comply fully
with safety plans.

FTA awards $28.22 million to city of
El Paso for Montana RTS Corridor
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has awarded a $28.22-million
grant to the city of El Paso, Texas, for the Montana Rapid Transit Service
(RTS) Corridor project, which aims to provide faster, more reliable transit
service to important destinations in downtown, the El Paso International
Airport and the Far East Transfer Center. The Montana RTS Corridor project is a 16.8-mile Bus Rapid Transit service operating along the Montana
Avenue Corridor. The total project cost is $49.2 million with $28.22 million
in funding requested through FTA's Capital Investment Grants Program.

recommends further analysis

Hamilton Transportation Task
Force's report was made public by the
province of Ontario in early April and
includes 15 recommendations for how
the province could use a committed
C$1 billion (US$710.370 million) to
improve transportation options for the
city of Hamilton. The report states the
task force has an initial preference for
either a light-rail transit option or a bus
rapid transit option, but makes clear
that further analysis is recommended
before a final decision is made. Following the finalization of the task force's
work, Ontario Minister of Transportation
Caroline Mulroney tasked Metrolinx and
Infrastructure Ontario with conducting

a technical review of the project options
contained in the report.

and NAVYA to use autonomous vehicles
to facilitate the transport of COVID-19
tests and medical supplies collected at a
drive-thru testing location at Mayo Clinic
in Jacksonville, Fla.
"This deployment is a historic moment for the Jacksonville Transportation
Authority," said JTA CEO Nathaniel P.
Ford, Sr. "Along with our partners, we are
leveraging our learnings from three years
of testing autonomous vehicles through
our Ultimate Urban Circulator program.
Our innovative team saw this as an opportunity to use technology to respond
to this crisis in northeast Florida and
increase the safety of COVID-19 testing."
The teams partnered to create, test
and deploy the routes for the autonomous vehicles to address the fluid developments of the COVID-19 pandemic.
