Is anybody doing anything to get their patients to "check-in" on Facebook while waiting
in the reception area? The food industry does this all the time. They promote some sort of
food discount, or offer something for free if you show your hostess that you have checkedin with your mobile device. If you are doing this sort of thing in your office, what are you
giving the patients as a reward for "checking-in" and socially promoting your office? Most
people will be getting a new brush and floss with paste on the way out already so I do not
see much coming from those type of rewards. What about a pack of sugarless gum? Any
other ideas? n

When you say "check-in" do you mean literally register with the front desk remotely, or
do you mean to look at and explore the practice's Facebook page while they are waiting for
their appointment? n David

We have a sign up for people to like our page. We also have had a contest or two in the
past where we got them to go like our page and then participate in the contest. I think the
gum idea is a good one. Something small. Anytime someone connects with your Facebook
page it is good free marketing to that person's friends for you. n

David, "Checking-in" is a social medial term used to let people know where you are at.
This is how it basically works: When you use a social media app on your smartphone or
other mobile device, there is usually a button on that page that says "check-in." This has
nothing to do with your front desk or your patients' appointments. What "checking-in" will
do is leave a message and your office's logo and map location of your office on the person
who is checking-in's social media page. All of the people who are friends of, or follow your
patient on social media will now see this giving you free advertising. It also leaves a impression that if you are good enough for Johnny then maybe I should go there as well.
Here is how it works: Your office first needs to make sure you show up on Google and
Bing maps. I would also take control of your Google+ local page and Bing business page. I
would also take control of or setup a Facebook and Yelp page with your logo. By setting up
all of these pages it will help down the line for your logo to be visible when check-ins start
coming in.
All of these social apps on mobile device use location and GPS tracking information to
see where that smartphone is at that moment in time in the world. If your office is visible
on the mapping of the sites I mentioned above, it will show up on social media apps based
on your offices address and the location tracking device within the phone.
