Her chief complaint: "When I woke up from my surgery at the hospital, my front tooth was knocked out and my wedding rings were stolen! I don't want to look like a bag lady for my husband's memorial in three days." Treatment options are extremely limited due to the patient's medical history and tight deadline, not to mention her ﬁnancial difﬁculties. But no problem- CEREC to the rescue! I charged her $500 total for the Maryland bridge and a few anterior ﬁlls in the neighborhood. Total lab bill is approximately $35 for the e.max block and the stain. Total chair time was about 1.5 hours, including the mill and baking time, during which I was seeing other patients. My fee covered my overhead. Deﬁnitely worth it though, since the patient was due for a little bit of good fortune. Conclusion: In my opinion, this situation represents the No. 1 underrated uses of the CEREC. This stuff is so fun, sometimes I feel like I should pay them to do it. I didn't stop to take screen caps and I didn't save the ﬁle, sorry. It was nothing special, a 1.3mm thickness on the wing, 10mm2 area on the connector. I tried for bigger but that's all I could get. I prepared a very light margin, just so I could marginate more easily on the CEREC. Regarding Ivoclar's support of e.max CAD resin bonded bridges, there is ongoing research in this area and it's looking good. This would mimic the success that I have had with it as well. That means that you were actually paying attention, Michael! Both to me and R&D last week. Don't be surprised if this is an ofﬁcial indication at some point. I have always looked at it as a solution when other solutions don't work for the patient or are not indicated.
