Magic by McCall Dr. Ryan McCall shares the stories behind two recent denture cases "This patient lost teeth #20-26 in a gunshot accident. Finances and aesthetics were a large concern for him, so we made multiple acrylic partial dentures while he healed from the surgery. We worked with a great oral surgeon in Indianapolis and used an acetyl resin clear clasp on tooth #27. He loved the results. I've found that many students no longer make acrylic partial dentures in dental school. That's a huge bummer- I think they're a wonderful option for patients who can't afford more costly flexible and cast-metal partial dentures. Typically we use these "flippers" as an interim or transitional appliance. For the aesthetically conscious patients, we prefer clear clasps. Our patients love them." "This is a normal case in our practice. This patient hadn't seen a dentist in more than 10 years and all of his teeth were unrestorable. We took alginate impressions, made custom trays, border-molded with green-stick compound, and took secondary impressions using Aquasil Ultra PVS from Dentsply Sirona. Because most of the teeth were severely decayed and broken at the gum line, we made wax rims before surgery. We extracted all 32 teeth under oral sedation and did alveoplasty in all four quadrants using a lab-fabricated clear surgical guide. The patient returned a year later for two lower implants and Zest locator attachments. The large majority of our cases are full-mouth extractions with implants and locators. There is a huge need for this service, and a chance to make a real impact on the denture patient's life." FREE FACTS, circle 29 on card dentaltown.com \\ NOVEMBER 2017 63http://www.dentaltown.com
