Starting to believe it's the best material we have for single units. Fine diamond to remove. Crown remover cracks it. Easier then PFM. ■ 11/4/2017 velogeek Member Since: 04/15/10 Post: 20 of 33 kidesperanto Member Since: 08/03/09 Post: 21 of 33 Then why are removing them? They haven't been available that long. ■ 11/4/2017 I remove a handful of year from recurrent decay that I didn't place. I remove way more PFMs for the same reason. ■ 11/4/2017 Timmy G Member Since: 04/14/02 Post: 23 of 33 For the same reasons that hips and knee replacements are redone and plastic surgeries get modified. None of us hits 100 percent. As I've heard, "our Creator gives us our first round of teeth. We dentists take our best shot at the replacements." ■ 11/4/2017 velogeek Member Since: 04/15/10 Post: 24 of 33 True, but the shelf life of the average cast gold restoration seems to be a lot longer than zirconia ... Glidewell who claims to have been producing zirconia restorations the longest only started in 2009. ■ 11/4/2017 kidesperanto Member Since: 08/03/09 Post: 25 of 33 Nate L Member Since: 10/22/14 Post: 26 of 33 Correction: Cast gold is the best. Zirc is second. ■ 11/4/2017 We tested burs for cutting through zirconia. [Editor's note: View this video on the message board thread.] When we tested them initially, the most efficient bur was a coarse bur from Komet (now called the 4ZR). We tested some more burs recently and found that the NeoDiamond 1116.8M from Microcopy cut equally as well. Both coarse burs caused chipping (so they wouldn't be good for cutting access holes through zirconia crowns-and then it would be preferable to use a fine diamond). No financial interest in either company (except we had several manufacturers donate burs for testing). ■ 11/5/2017 kidesperanto Member Since: 08/03/09 Post: 27 of 33 Lane, I'm of the opinion that high caries risk/rate and poor diet/OH grossly trumps prosthetic material selection. Cast gold is always better, but a mouth on fi re still destroys it. Do you disagree? ■ 11/5/2017 velogeek Member Since: 04/15/10 Post: 28 of 33 Timmy G Member Since: 04/14/02 Post: 29 of 33 True, but patients with burned down teeth don't get crowns until get under control... ■ 11/5/2017 Depends on what you mean by control. If I waited on ideal or great control for every patient I have in my blue-collar area to do a crown, I'd be waiting until St. Switherns day. ■ 11/5/2017 38 JANUARY 2018 // dentaltown.comhttp://www.dentaltown.com
