What's Happening? views in 2 months A Townie shares a case where a patient has finished ortho but ortho might not be finished with her. Check out how other dentists recommend going about this case that doesn't want to end m2mnelson Member Since: 08/02/08 Post: 1 of 85 Background This patient is the daughter of my office manager and I am trying to figure what is going on. She is 19 years old and has had orthodontics twice. The last round of ortho was finished approximately 3 years ago. Problem She has developed an open bite both times after ortho. The first time I saw her was about a year ago, so the open bite developed within two years of finishing ortho. The patient doesn't like how it looks and we are also seeing wear on her posterior teeth that is concerning. Long term, we are considering veneers due to correct aesthetics of open bite and small teeth. Diagnostics I have attached a series of CBCT X-rays showing the TMJ in the open and closed position. I can see the articular eminence and space are reduced on both sides. Questions Is this likely some sort of degenerative disorder of the TMJ? My idea is to measure the open bite for a couple of years and if it doesn't increase, then is it logical to feel safe starting treatment? Is there anything else you would recommend? Thank you all in advance! ■ 3/16/2019 30 JULY 2019 // dentaltown.comhttp://www.dentaltown.com
