message board OS Instruments With Suction Townies provide instrument advice for a dentist who's beginning his oral surgery journey koala123 Member Since: 08/01/13 Post: 1 of 28 Hi, guys. I am getting into some OS procedures including wisdom teeth extractions. I often struggle with suction and four-hand dentistry; I feel like I need fi ve-hand dentistry instead. I have been looking into some of the instruments that have suction features in them but it looks quite different from most of the suctions I have seen. Do you think this suction would fi t into either small or HVE adopters that we normally use in the dental offi ce? And are there any instruments that you recommend for doctors who hold handpiece and fl ap retractor, and assistants who hold tongue retractor, lingual fl ap retractor and surgical suction? Thank you. ■ 1/5/2022 NeutrophilOMFS Member Since: 07/08/12 Post: 2 of 28 You should not need this contraption. Retract with your left hand using a Minnesota. Do surgery with the right hand. Assistant can suction with one hand and either pass or retract with the other. Use a surgical Frazier tip instead of a dental suction. ■ 1/5/2022 koala123 Member Since: 08/01/13 Post: 3 of 28 I've never tried surgical Frazier tip. How is it better than a dental surgical suction? When I perform a lower third molar extraction, I ask my assistant to hold a surgical suction and lingual fl ap. But if a patient moves his tongue, my assistant's hand can slip and let go of the lingual fl ap. I am worried about cutting lingual nerve if this happens. I am hoping to use a 3D printer to design a retractor that can retract both buccal and lingual fl ap at the same time. I wonder why no one came up with this design; all we need is a little angle adjustable extension that is attached to a Minnesota retractor. In a meantime, I wonder if this mouth prop plus tongue retractor can come in handy. ■ 1/5/2022 16 APRIL 2022 // dentaltown.comhttps://www.dentaltown.com/messageboard/thread.aspx?s=2&f=173&t=362408&g=1 http://www.dentaltown.com
