tricuspid One more thing that may be going on here is the culture of the offi ce you work at. Sometimes staff members are groomed to think and act like the owner doc is the cat's meow who can do no wrong. If the owner doc is on a pedestal and is not showing full faith in you, then staff members pick up on that. Patients can pick up this vibe from the staff as well. There are often cases where the owner doc is fl at-out instructing staff to steer certain cases or situations his way (like the case where the lady thought you messed up her teeth-the owner may have wanted to put out that fi re if the patient was mad on the phone). It can also be a greed thing where the owner wants the good cases. So this may not all be on you. I think it's wise to continue working on your presentation and communication. But realize that some things will likely improve on their own when your name is on the door and when you are paying the staff's paychecks. ■ 4/15/2021 Good advice on this thread. Is your name on the door? That helps. Sometimes people just want the owner, period-don't take it personally. My associate is better than me at everything- she sees my kids. I tell people this. People walk up and ask for me. She couldn't care less. (This is the key to your problem.) Watch out for thinking out loud. Don't do that. Say exactly what should be done without verbally processing it in front of the patient. Say it like you do not care if they want a second opinion or want to go to the other doctor (but nicely). I would review all rads before you walk in, so you already have an idea where it is heading.
