Introduction:
Does anyone have a recommendation for a lateral open bite appliance? I plan to try a lingual
arch with vertical extensions to block the tongue.

I think the tongue used to cover the lower posterior teeth.
#30 might be ankylosed, but normal to percussion.
Conclusion:
Case used to be CL2 div 2. Lateral open bite developed
during treatment. Patient is just out of Forsus appliance. ■

Are you sure the lateral open bite isn't due to the mandibular curve of Spee and the canted
mandibular occlusal plane? The LR6 looks suspicious. Band or bracket the lower 7s and have the
patient wear vertical elastics ... see which teeth move. ■

LR6 is a band. These are the pretreatment photos. At rest the tongue postured on the
occlusal surfaces of the lower posterior teeth. I just put him on box elastics on the right side
in the canine premolar area.
But I think I need something
in there to block the tongue
until I can get the posterior
teeth to erupt. ■

Is he in CR? What wire size are you in? Also, what wire size did you run the Forsus on? Part
of this might be side-effects of the CL2 corrector especially since the upper 7s were not banded/
bonded. There might also be an occlusal interference on the R7s (due to the intrusive vector on
