I chose to open my practice and name it after my location, which is a shopping area in a
suburb. People all over the city know the location by name, so I think it worked well. I draw
patients from a broad surrounding area. Maybe it's the least creative, but it's the most descriptive
and that is what I wanted. When I married, I took my husband's last name, and did not bother
to change it back after we split. I opened my practice and did not want to use that last name for
the offi ce, so the choice was easy for me. I agree that it may be easier to transition the practice if
it's not tied to the owner's name. (Not sure about this, however.)
I know of other orthos who use the random/clever/catchy name. I think that method can be
a really nice way to brand your practice, especially if you want to open a satellite offi ce and call
it the same name. No matter what option you choose, make sure to check that the domain name
for your future website is not currently in use before you fall in love with the name. ■

I am (Town) Orthodontics (single practitioner) and am glad I changed from my name when
I changed to an S corp. But I wish I would have made the website TownOrtho.com, rather than
TownOrthodontics.com-too many letters! ■

You may want to get TownOrtho.com and TownOrthodontics.com, to prevent patients from
getting confused between yours and a competitor who takes the other. Also, TownBraces.com
is a good option. ■

although Google will usually
autocorrect. But if TownOrthodontics.com is already
taken, you may as well go for TownBraces.com. Is it the
only town, or are you a suburb in a bigger city? Maybe
SuburbOrtho.com may be better. But if you would do that,
I would scoop up SuburbBraces.com, SuburbOrthodontics.
com and maybe SuburbOrthodontist.com if you want to
really be airtight. They cost $9-$15 per year to renew, so
real inexpensive insurance. ■

is you may have to have multiple
websites if you ever decide to have a satellite office.
