members who reached out and
shared their initiative with them.
Initiatives such as these are what
fuels FBLA as an organization to
continue their mission of developing
community-minded leaders in
business for the next generation.

Sylacauga FBLA:
Prioritizing Safety and
Membership Experiences

Sylacauga High School FBLA in
Sylacauga, Alabama is the largest
student-driven organization at
Sylacauga High School, spearheading
school-wide efforts in community

service and leadership. Their lead
chapter adviser, Ms. Pamela McTier,
hopes to maintain this status despite
this year's unprecedented conditions.
In order to fulfill this, Sylacauga
FBLA held their annual chocolate
reception-a socially distanced
recognition event-to celebrate new
Sylacauga FBLA members. In the spirit
of community service, Sylacauga FBLA
recently volunteered at the concession
stands for local sporting events, such as
the Sylacauga 5K Run. Because safety
has been the top priority for Sylacauga
FBLA, all chapter meetings have been
virtual, and in-person events continue
to practice CDC guidelines, mandating
mask-wearing and maintaining
social distance.
Currently, Sylacauga FBLA is
preparing for the Alabama FBLA State

Leadership Conference, as it plays a
vital role in recruiting and retaining
chapter members. Although Sylacauga
FBLA's experiences have been
different this year, they've been able to
overcome these new challenges and
grow as a chapter. Chapter President
and former Alabama FBLA State
President, Ella Kate Brooks, says they
will do everything they can to keep
their members together (but physically
separate) in these trying times.
