Passion and Impact
O
ver the past 10 years,
student entrepreneurship
has been on the rise, with
many children and young
adults deciding to apply their interests to
the world of business. Entrepreneurship
can take many forms, whether it's walking
the neighbor's dog, raking people's
leaves, baking cakes for parties, or making
jewelry to sell online.
A big misconception about young
entrepreneurs is that their passion for
business is only driven by money. In
most cases, the opposite is true. Young
entrepreneurs are usually creative individuals
who want to help others within
their community. They start their business
by doing something they enjoy, but
their ultimate goal is to make the world a
better place.
For some students, starting their own
business can be daunting. But these three
students from Franklin High School in
Somerset, New Jersey, have shown that
with a little creativity and passion, anything
is possible.
Ananya Marathe and Nishi Patel
are FBLA Alumni graduates who used
their love of design and decor to create
Dreams Decor in mid 2020. With a focus
on interior and event decor, Dreams
Decor had a brick-and-mortar shop
where clients and customers could come
and pick out individual pieces to add to
their space. When creating their business,
Marathe and Patel wanted to cater
to each of their clients' needs. By having
their customers' best interests at heart,
they hope to create a positive impact on
their community.
Amanda Gutierrez, a junior at Franklin
High School, used her passion for
fashion and jewelry to create Lovely Anytime
in late 2020. Initially launching her
business on Instagram and later shifting
to Etsy, Gutierrez was interested in gaining
the financial skills needed to start and
run a business. One of the things Gutierrez
enjoys most about Lovely Anytime is
being able to create personal connections
with her customers. Part of that is crafting
unique packaging for each item sold,
which provides a special experience for
customers and allows Gutierrez to offer a
token of her appreciation.
As entrepreneurship expands across
the globe, young individuals are using
their passions to have a positive impact
on the world. Whether you're launching
an actual business or starting small by
helping people around town, you can be
a part of the entrepreneurial movement.
