Six impacts of signage in athletic departments

I
n the world of school athletics, where every
moment counts and communication is key, the
role of branded signs cannot be overstated. From
guiding spectators to their seats to displaying team
achievements, signs, graphics, banners, and more
serve as essential tools in enhancing the overall
experience for players, coaches, fans, and visitors alike.
Safety is of high importance within Athletic
departments. Not only for the participants but for the
spectators. Having clear, concise signs that direct you
to exits and medical assistance in case of emergencies
is necessary to keep everyone safe.
In recent years, digital signage has revolutionized the
way athletic departments engage with their audience,
offering dynamic and interactive opportunities to
inform and entertain as well. Interior and exterior
scoreboards help to get excitement going at sporting
events. Adding a digital message board to the school
entrance sign provides the opportunity to announce
upcoming sports events and display school spirit.
When it comes to school branding and athletic signs,
it is important to create a cohesive visual identity that
reflects the values, culture, and spirit of the school.
Here are some key considerations and strategies for
effective school branding and athletic signage:

Guidance and Wayfinding
Design clear and concise wayfinding signage to
help visitors navigate the school campus and athletic
facilities. Incorporate school colors and logos to
maintain brand consistency.
One of the primary functions of signs for an
athletic department is to provide clear guidance
and wayfinding for visitors. Large events, such as
tournaments or championship games, often draw
crowds from everywhere, many of whom may be
unfamiliar with the layout of the facilities.
Well-placed exterior signs directing attendees
to parking areas, blade signs for ticket booths, and
restrooms, and dimensional lettering and graphics for
concession stands can significantly improve the flow
of foot traffic and reduce confusion, ensuring a smooth
and enjoyable experience for all.
Ensure that all signage, including directional signs
and informational displays, is accessible to individuals
with disabilities in compliance with ADA regulations.
