Fencing: Check fencing, including rails,
connectors, hinges and gates; repair or order
replacement parts if necessary. Check to
make sure gates do not drag across the track
surface and cause damage.
Field Events: Carefully examine all takeoff
boards, landing areas, throwing cages, vault
boxes, sand pits, water jumps, stanchions
and other equipment. Repair or order
replacements as necessary. Count hurdles
and make sure they are in good repair.
Bleachers and Benches: Check bleachers
and benches, looking for sharp edges, loose
areas or anything else that could present a
hazard. Repair or order replacements
as needed.
Outbuilding and Storage Sheds: If equipment
is stored in outbuildings or sheds near the
facility, check all doors, hinges and locks.
Repaint any buildings as needed. If there are
leaks in the roof, patch them; problems will
not improve over time.
Lights: Turn on lights and make sure all units
are working and that the competition area
is evenly illuminated; order replacements or
consult with electrical contractors or lighting
vendors as needed.
