was also recently awarded a new
EMP grant for Thailand. Work will
begin this fall as we investigate that
market for potential increased sales
in the future as well.
Task Force Committee
For the domestic marketing
program, our Task Force
Committee (made up of three
CMI members and three Cherry
Industry Advisory Board (CIAB)
members) recently met with
the Weber Shandwick (WS) team
to put forward the priorities and
recommendations for the 2023-24
marketing year. Last year, our focus
shifted from consumer marketing to
focus more on business-to-business.
It was the consensus of the Task Force
and WS team to stay on that same path
for the 2023-24 marketing year.

Communications
In addition to the work that CMI is
involved in with the WS team, Nate
Chesher, our marketing director, has
taken the lead on social media and
website updates for both CMI and
CIAB. This provides more funding for
WS to use its expertise in marketing
for the U.S. tart cherry industry.
Nate also wrote a Specialty Crop
Block Grant that was approved by the
Michigan Department of Agriculture
and Rural Development (MDARD) for
12 trade shows CMI plans to attend. At
the shows, booth space will be shared
with our marketers. This will provide
an opportunity to work and walk
various trade shows. Huge thanks to
MDARD for this great opportunity for
the cherry industry.
In closing this month, I want to wish
our growers a safe harvest. Times
are tough for American farmers. We
need to support them as much as we
possibly can so, please look at those
cherry products and make sure you
are purchasing U.S. grown products
and not imported fruit. As it's easy to
get confused by the labels, take a quick
look and make sure the product states
grown or produced in the U.S. - not
packaged.
