Strategy and Program
During the session, the speaker will share the
steps necessary to build a sustainability program
and strategy into your business, including
examples of how Potato Sustainability Alliance
(PSA) members are meeting the needs of their
customers and supply chain.
Farmers, supply chain partners, nonprofit
organizations, and advisors work together as
the PSA to improve the environmental, social
and economic outcomes in potato production
in the United States and Canada. Building off
the expertise of all partners, PSA advances
the identification and adoption of sustainable
production practices to meet consumer and
market expectations by benchmarking and
communicating the sustainability performance
of potato production.
Initially launched as the Potato Sustainability
Initiative in 2009, PSA has grown into a
roundtable organization bringing stakeholders
to the table in developing a shared vision, and
making sustainable potato production the " norm. "
PSA is committed to defining, benchmarking and
advancing sustainability through engagement,
collaboration and partnerships.

Positive Influence of Chloropicrin
Soil Fumigation on Soil Health and
Quality Potato Production
Research has demonstrated that chloropicrin
reduces many soilborne diseases while
promoting the growth of beneficial soil microbes
that support crop production. This presentation
will share the current research on the positive
impact of chloropicrin soil fumigation on soil
health and how the practice improves long-term
environmental and economic sustainability of
the family farm. Recent soil health data from onfarm
trials will be shared.
