trade, expanding potato research funding and the school lunch program.

an individual producer going
into his or her senator's office
or house member's office and
saying, " My farm is in your
state, is in your district and your
decision on this policy, on trade,
on ag labor, it's going to make
a material impact on my farm.
It's going to make an impact on
the people that I can hire. So, I
want you to get it right. " There
is no substitute for having those
types of personal stories and
personal interaction. The votes
(legislators) make mean more
than just an up or down. It's
the future of businesses and
how successful they can be,
potentially for years.
I can't recommend strongly
enough that people get and
continue to be involved. We,
being the NPC, want to provide
every resource to make folks
successful whether it's their
first visit or their 10th visit.
Talking to their representatives
in Congress might be a little
bit intimidating. How do you
recommend a first-time attendee
approach it?
We structure the meeting to
hopefully provide folks with
a solid background on how
they can go in on that first visit
with their (representative)
in Congress and make it
productive. We spend about half
a day in intensive sessions at
the convention hotel bringing
in experts and going through
the issues. In simple-but
understandable terms, we say,
