The Suntory Flowers team returns to the Santa Barbara Polo &
Racquet Club, where 10 new varieties will make their debut for 2024.
Granvia Crimson Sun
All over the world, Suntory Flowers
is known as " the plant pioneers, "
creating exciting new varieties
that reinvent and elevate a genus.
While Surfinia petunias led the
vegetative annuals revolution, Sun
Parasol took mandevilla hybrids to
amazing heights. A fine example is
the new Sun Parasol Giant Peach
Sunrise, a breakthrough color in
classic mandevillas that debuted
at the Tropical Plant International
Expo last month. Additional 2024
introductions include:
SENETTI PERICALLIS
Two new varieties join the Senetti
line up of cool colors for the cool
season. Senetti Red Halo features
red daisy flowers with longer petals
and a distinctive white ring around
the red velvet center disc. This
would be very eye-catching for
Valentine's Day sales next to Senetti
White Red Heart - white daisy
flowers with red velvet centers.
Senetti Lavender Dawn is a compact,
floriferous variety that is an overall
better plant than the current Magic
Salmon. Blooms start out dark
lavender and become pinker with
bright eyes. Perfect for Easter!
And Senetti Blue Bicolor, one of the
Surfinia Patio Party Pink
top selling original varieties, has been
improved for better stock production
and disease resistance. Plants are
more compact and grower friendly
compared to the wilder original.
SOIREE CATHARANTHUS
Spicing up summer, Suntory has
two hot introductions in Soiree
cathranthus - Soiree Kawaii Paprika
Red and Soiree Flamenco Salsa Red.
Soiree Kawaii Paprika Red is a warm
red/orange shade with a white eye,
compared to Red Shades, which is
cooler with a red eye. Soiree Kawaii
vinca varieties are tiny, but terrific!
Cute, mini flowers create mounds of
color. Choose from eight colors for
outstanding summer performance.
Soiree Flamenco varieties have
ruffled petals. While the other four
colors are shades of pink and salmon,
Salsa Red is a deep maroon with a
lighter terracotta edge.
GRANVIA BRACTEANTHAS
Suntory's super strawflower series
adds two new essential colors -
Granvia White and Crimson Sun.
Large red and crisp white blooms
open and close with the sun,
revealing sunny yellow centers.
Granvia plants are much larger than
standard strawflower varieties,
making stunning specimens in
the landscape and large
Senetti Red Halo
Soiree Flamenco
Salsa Red
containers. Many growers are
positioning for fall sales, but they are
great spring until frost from the deep
south to the far north. Bigger blooms
lend themselves to dried flower
crafts, too!
SURFINIA PETUNIAS
Suntory is breeding compact, upright
mounding varieties again. Current
examples include Baby Compact
Purple and Patio Yellow. New for
2024 is Patio Party Pink! Bright pink
blooms have a star pattern that
resembles a kiss! An irresistible
addition to your spring assortment.
