61 years of Spudman pride
Attending the Potato EXPO was like a high school reunion for me.
The January event in Colorado, which drew a record 1,800

growers and industry members, was abuzz with energy. It reminded
me of a potato industry event 25 years ago where
I met the former Spudman owner Don Miller -
a year later I was the proud owner of Spudman!
It was hard to move more than 10 feet without
running into old friends and reminiscing about
past stories and farm visits I've made to potato
operations all over the United States. I've been
taken on plane rides to view the San Luis Valley,
Gator rides through fields, tested on my roguing
ability and, of course, enjoyed many alwayspopular
pickup truck tours.
The hospitality the potato industry has shown me and our editors
over the years attests to the integrity and the good-naturedness of
this industry.
The biggest hit at our Potato EXPO booth this year were our
Spudman and Spudwoman stickers - we handed out hundreds of
them! If you picked one up, please send us your photos of where
you stuck your sticker to my email below. Or, if you want a sticker,
email me your address, and we'll mail one to you. Just let me know
if you want Spudman, Spudwoman or both.
Like your operation, much has changed in the publishing business
in the past 25 years. Our content is now shared in many ways,
including the print publication, social media, websites, e-newsletters
and email. It allows us to be on all channels, and you get to choose
when, where and how you want to consume that content.
Spudman's mission has not changed in the 61 years that it has
been published: to be the most-trusted information resource for the
potato industry by providing tools to growers so they can profitably
provide healthy spuds to the world.
