Mental Illness and Mental Health Care Use
Among Police Officers,' published in 2020,
found that 12% of the 434 police officers
surveyed reported a lifetime mental health
diagnosis and 26% reported current symptoms
of mental illness.
Police officers need to be trained in selfdefense
and perhaps the best benefit is it
allowed the officers to take down assailants
without the use of lethal force - and limit
the results that could affect one's mental
health standing.
