At Banned Substances Control
Group (BSCG), we work hard to keep

Third-party certification can be
complex. In simple terms it is a
third-party evaluation of a product or
process with recognition of passing
the program usually identified by
use of a program seal. Many different

To understand what we do you
can think of BSCG as Banned
Substances, Contents, and Good
Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
as those are the key elements
involved in all of our certification
programs. Our flagship BSCG
Certified Drug Free program is
designed for protection of athletes
and drug tested professionals like
first responders, tactical experts, and
military service members.
Perhaps most important to tactical
professionals, every lot of BSCG
Certified Drug Free supplements
are tested for more than 505 drugs
including 296 drugs banned in sport
or tactical drug testing programs
and 209 over-the-counter, illicit
or prescription drugs - the most
comprehensive testing menu in the
industry today. The Certified Drug
Free program starts with an initial
audit of manufacturing quality
control, claims, compliance, and
GMP. Verification of label claims
and environmental contaminants is
required annually.
Put simply, BSCG helps ensure you
get what is on the supplement label,
nothing more and nothing less.
Operation Supplement Safety
(OPSS) offers supplement guidance
to the U.S. Department of Defense
including a checklist for making
good supplement choices that
acknowledges the BSCG Certified
Drug Free program. The OPSS
mission notes that, " in March
2022, DoD issued the Department
of Defense Instruction (DoDI)
6130.06, Use of Dietary Supplements
in the DoD, in which DoD establishes
OPSS as the " go-to " program for
dietary supplements. It states that
OPSS will maintain the official DoD
Prohibited Dietary Supplement
Ingredient list, and provide
educational training on the topic of
dietary supplements. "
BSCG is proud that OPSS recognizes
the BSCG Certified Drug Free
program as one of the leaders
in third-party certification for
banned substances alongside
Informed Sport and NSF Certified
for Sport. BSCG Certified Drug Free
and Informed Sport are the only
programs that test every lot of
supplements for banned substances.
Make sure to lookup the lot number
stamped on the supplement bottle
in the program database to make
sure it has been tested! This could
be one of the most important
things you do in your career. If your
lot hasn't been tested then you
aren't protected!
