Injury Prevention & Treatment

Overhead athletes:
Treating and preventing shoulder injury
Repetitive overhead arm motion can break down the
harmonious balance of the dynamic and static stabilizers that
work in sync to maintain balance and stability of the shoulder
joint. This wear and tear can cause athletes to complain of
post-performance muscle fatigue, shoulder soreness and pain.
Because gravity is pulling at the static stabilizers, the rotator
cuff muscles and tendons need support and rest. Applying
immediate post-performance support helps the shoulder
restore its stability and avoid micro-trauma. Like most
athletic trainers, you probably focus on strengthening the
arm and shoulder, which is vital for overhead athletes, but
you're missing an amazing opportunity if you're not helping
athletes rest their shoulder properly.
The PRO Shoulder Support is a simple, effective recovery tool
that can be worn post-performance to help athletes avoid or
treat common injuries including shoulder tendinitis, rotator
cuff tear or strain, labrum tear, or shoulder impingement
syndrome, allowing your athletes to get back in the game as
quickly as possible.
A plan for post-practice, post-game and anytime
the athlete feels sore
Developed by Dianne Cortese, a Doctor of Physical Therapy
with more than 20 years of experience treating shoulder
injuries, the PRO Shoulder Support elevates and cradles
the shoulder socket, decompresses and supports the joint,
counteracts gravity, allows the free flow of blood to revive
the rotator cuff, and protects the static stabilizers to help
speed recovery.
Simple, effective and easy to use
" The weight of the arm pulling on the fatigued shoulder
post-performance contributes to micro-trauma and overuse
injury. That's why the PRO Shoulder Support should be an
important part of any overhead athlete's recovery regimen, "
says Dr. Cortese. Simply slide the support over the wrist and
position in the underarm/axilla. Adjust the strap for a snug
fit and wear for 20-30 minutes post-practice, post-game, and
anytime the athlete feels soreness.
You know how to help your athletes train properly and with
PRO Shoulder Support you can be sure they're recovering
properly, too.
