EPA proposes rodenticide
restrictions
The Environmental Protection Agency is proposing
to impose restrictions on
rodenticides. A comment
period on the plan was
scheduled to end Feb. 13.
The EPA's Proposed
Interim Decisions
include reclassifying all
rodenticides to Restricted
Use Pesticides and
cancellation of spot/scatter
and broadcast applications
in rangeland, pasture,
fallow land, and in cropped areas including orchards,
groves, vineyards and alfalfa.
For above-ground applications, the rules propose
no direct applications to food or feed crops, limit
applications to only during the crop's non-growth
(dormant) period, using only tamper-resistant bait
stations at use sites and requiring one year harvest
intervals for applications made to non-bearing crops.
Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based Liphatech, which
has registered the Rozol brand to control field
rodents including ground squirrels, black-tailed
prairie dogs, pocket gophers, rats, mice and voles,
is asking users to comment on how the changes
would affect them. According to Liphatech, the EPA
changes would effectively ban its General Use Rozol
Pocket Gopher Bait.
The changes apply to anticoagulant rodenticides
and acute rodenticides, including zinc phosphide,
according to Liphatech.

Duda names new president

company's former chief operating officer and senior

Duda was previously president
of Duda Farm Fresh Foods before
being selected as CEO-elect by
Duda's board of directors in June
2022 as part of a succession process
to prepare for the December retirement of former
CEO David J. Duda.
Sammy Duda's appointment to CEO-elect led to a

leadership transition period for the CEO role.
It also started an internal and external search for
candidates to fill Sammy Duda's previous subsidiary
leadership role, according to a news release.
Barton Weeks, Duda's chief operating officer,
served as the interim leader for Duda Farm
Fresh Foods and guided the search for suitable
candidates. He said Bassetti's selection followed
serious deliberation and consideration of several
options and multiple candidates.
