And then he's also the co-CEO of Farm
Fresh To You, a community supported
agriculture company that buys fruits and
vegetables from 50-60 farms on the West
Coast, delivering them to families as far
north as Seattle.
And in addition to those two roles,
Barsotti serves on the board of California
Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF), a
farmer-organized group that certifies
farms as organic. He also serves on the
board of the Davis Farmers Market.
Those many responsibilities recently
added up to some industry-wide

Capay Organic was among the first farms
to be organic-certified in Yolo County near
Sacramento. His parents started selling
produce at farmers' markets in the Bay
Area, ultimately co-founding the wellknown
Davis Farmers Market.
" We're good at direct marketing, " Barsotti
said. " That's always been our niche. "
More growers are growing organically
and the crops are becoming more of a
commodity, so it's difficult to find crops
with which one can compete with larger
growers, he said. Growing without
pesticides and herbicides also has not
become easier.
