The Right Solution
Includes a Hands-on Approach

f there's a problem in the field, Clay Paulk is out
to find a solution. As a member of the sales team
with Triangle Chemical Company in the Moultrie,
Georgia, area, he's always seeking a solution that will
help his grower customers.
This hands-on approach has helped him learn about
how products work in growers' programs and stay up
to date on issues that may come up in the field.
" It's good for me to know what's working, and
what may not be as effective, " Paulk said. " I work
with growers to scout fields, so I know what is
happening in their fields. "
One way Paulk discovers what's working in his area
is to use it on his own crops. He and his wife farm and
raise livestock. He grew up on a farm growing cotton,
corn, peanuts and tobacco. Today, he continues to
grow some of those crops and has added others.
Although he enjoys growing the crops, he also uses
his fields to try new products. This helps him provide
growers with hands-on product experience and discuss
the benefits.
A product Paulk has found success with is Radiant®
SC insecticide with Jemvelva active. Radiant SC
contains spinetoram, a Group 5 insecticide, that
offers fast knockdown and broad-spectrum control of
damaging insect pests, including the diamondback
moth (Plutella xylostella) in cabbage plants.
" We start scouting for the diamondback moth when
the cabbage plants are planted, " Paulk explained. " It's
not a matter of if, but when they will appear. "
The diamondback moth will feed on the lower
surface of the leaf with their chewing resulting in
irregular patches of scars, or damage. This leads to a
less desirable consumer product.
" Radiant SC is likely to get sprayed early due to its
longer residual, " Paulk said. " It will be in the first or
second spray. "
Paulk explained that because growers have so much
invested in high-value crops such as cabbage, it's
critical to understand resistance management and
ensure products with different modes of action are
rotated accordingly. Including Radiant SC insecticide
in the mix helps him follow an Integrated Pest
Management plan. He also has found success using
the product in other cole crops, including broccoli.
As a partner to his grower customers, Paulk is
always seeking ways to help them succeed. His
problem-solving nature and hands-on approach
help him deliver the advice his customers have
come to expect.
