sentencing hearings. Whatever grueling work had been done that
day in a courtroom or during a meeting with a client was now a
distant thought for attorneys on the team as they peppered the
manager with questions about the score and batting order as the
final innings approached.
In this, a smaller Bar Association where everyone is one or two
people removed from anyone who hangs out a shingle or occupies
the Courthouse, knowing your colleagues and having a way to
connect to them is paramount. It allows for a smoother and more
amenable work environment in our profession, which is inherently
adversarial.
As we approach yet another warm summer with the trees
sprouting and children still enjoying the luxury that is summer
vacation, attorneys of the Bar Association will be back out on the
diamond as they put down their briefs, memorandums, and closing
arguments to pick up the bats, helmets and gloves and leave the
grind of the legal world behind. For a few hours a day, once or
twice a week, the 20, 30, & 40-somethings of our Bar will try to
recapture the exuberance and care-free joy that was part of youth
sports. Heck, the Courthouse won't be open until 8 tomorrow
morning. And with just a few more hits maybe we can hoist that
championship trophy one more time.

Some of the members of the team were not lawyers as the team occasionally
lacked enough players to play solely as a Bar Association team. The other members
were friends, family, and professional connections who shared the team's passion
for competing in the softball league.
