of that magical season. And he touched on other critical
points in his career, all of which were shared with a genuine
enthusiasm that was palpably uplifting. Lidge was impossible
not to like both up close and from the audience.
Caltagirone, the event chair, aptly described Brad Lidge
as sincere, grounded, intelligent, unassuming, and authentic.
In my short discussion with Lidge prior to the luncheon,
he expressed a refreshing willingness to talk about any topic.
And during the "fireside chat" interview with Caltagirone
and myself, Lidge went out of his way to follow up on his
own answers to ensure he was providing a more complete
picture for the audience and the interviewers. Lidge's
experience as a commentator and radio host over the last
six years was evident from the clarity and quality of his
responses.
Of course, the first question was about Game 5 of the
2008 World Series. The game began on October 27, 2008.
But driving rain forced play to be suspended with the score
tied 2-2 in the middle of the 6th inning. The rain continued
on October 28 and prevented the Phillies and Tampa Bay
from taking the field.
