100 Years Later
Continued from page 7

Berks County Controller
Sandy Graffius:
"As the Controller for the County of Berks, I am reminded
daily of the opportunity to make a difference guarding our tax
dollars and auditing all elected county officials. After running
my own business for 25 years - the opportunity to give back to
the community was possible because of the 19th Amendment.
It is hard for me to imagine the tenacity it took for women to
persevere as they worked toward getting the right to vote and the
right to invade smoke-filled, back room politics."

Reading City Councilwoman
Lucine Sihelnik (District 1):
"I'm lucky to have grown up being encouraged to be a
feminist. I don't take that for granted; so many great women
and men had to fight to achieve the right for women to vote, to
be politically active, and there is still so much work to be done
100 years later. To celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the 19th
Amendment in Berks County means that we take the baton and
continue to be agents of change for the next 100 years, ensuring
equity for all. Sharing our positions and paths of power in a
sustainable leadership style that preserves and protects equity for
all not only now, but forever."

Heidi Fiedler, Maidencreek Township
Supervisor; Berks County Republican
Committee Vice Chair:
"I believe that it is a great honor and responsibility for
American citizens to exercise our constitutional right to vote.
Since the Declaration of Independence, millions of Americans
have given their lives while fighting for our freedom in numerous
wars. By voting, we honor all American heroes and we elect
leaders to uphold the Constitution and our freedom."

Carol BourriƩ, Republican State
Committee Member, Berks County:
"The 19th Amendment empowers women to influence
government in solidarity for humanity promoting equality,
justice, and accountability for all."
The anniversary of this momentous event in American
history is being prominently observed in Berks County. The
Berks Women's History Alliance (BWHA) is a non-partisan
organization of local individuals, non-profits, and educational
