w w w.BERKSBAR.org Law Day 2018 In May the Berks County Bar Association celebrated Law Day with a special luncheon at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The theme this year was "Separation of Powers: Framework for Freedom." It was a time to recognize how our Constitution established a system of government with three distinct and independent branches, providing a check on the power of each. These checks and balances preserve political freedom, setting forth a framework for freedom. Highlighting the theme were essays written by fifth and sixth graders and an interview with John Zak, of the American Historical Theatre, portraying James Madison, who was known as the Father of our Constitution. Law Day Chair Julie Marburger (L) and President Joan London (R) recognize Sara Witmer of La Salle Academy for taking first place in the essay contest. The Executive Director interviewed James Madison. "My wife, Dolly, was considered the first First Lady but she was not the first to serve ice cream in the White House."
