Pro Bono Celebration
On October 23, as part of national Pro Bono Celebration week, the Berks County Bar
Association recognized its Pro Bono Team members with a luncheon, an afternoon of
free seminars and a concluding reception. The celebration featured the presentation by
the Pennsylvania Bar Association of two special awards and a terrific keynote speech by
Philadelphia attorney Nikki Johnson-Huston. We truly appreciate all that
the members of the Pro Bono Team do to help those less fortunate.

PBA Pro Bono Coordinator David Trevaskis, Amy B. Good, Jeffrey R. Boyd,
and PBA President Charles Eppolito, III. Amy received the PBA Civil
Legal Aid Attorney of the Year Award (the first time a Berks attorney was so
honored), and Jeff received the PBA Pro Bono Award.

Keynote speaker Nikki Johnson-Huston. She grew up in
poverty, was homeless for a period of time, and had been
represented by a legal aid attorney. "But do not feel sorry
for me. As one who needed pro bono representation,
let me provide that perspective. Please treat the client
with dignity and respect, even if the client is angry
or difficult. That is how the client in need expresses
frustration."
