The Playoffs
RBBSL's opening round of playoffs featured the Greater
Reading Young Professionals (GRYP) versus Herbein in
one game, and Brentwood versus Kriegman & Smith in the
other game. Kriegman quickly scheduled its game against
Brentwood, defeating the plastics company and moving into the
championship game. Berks Bar was awaiting the winner of the
other game, but again found itself waiting as those teams needed
more than two weeks to find a time to meet up. GRYP would
defeat Herbein in that game. It would be another two weeks
(thanks to severe thunderstorms) before GRYP would face Berks
Bar to see which team would play Kriegman in the championship.
The last meeting between GRYP and the bar association was
a tense affair, ending in a one-run victory for the Bar Association
(18-17). The playoff game between the two would be nearly as
hard-fought with Berks Bar holding off a late rally to take the
game 15-12. Thus, setting the stage for the championship.
The Championship Game
What began as a tightly contested defensive battle turned into
a slugfest as the Berks County Bar Association softball squad rode
a 13-run seventh inning to its second RBBSL championship in
the last three seasons and defeated a scrappy Kriegman & Smith
squad 22-15.
Kriegman came into the game having lost six straight games
to Berks Bar stretching back to 2016, but was feeling good about
their chances, having nearly defeated the Barristers earlier in the
year when the Bar Association needed a ninth-inning comeback
to walk off with a win.
The away team would get 2 runs in the first off Berks Bar
pitcher Jordan Fegley. The Bar Association would tie things up in
the bottom of the frame when Shawn Snyder singled in a run and
